Hose the daddy?

This isn't the blip I intended to write, but reading IsleMum's blip today, made me think about how the road we're travelling can be altered, in just a few seconds...

This is my dear friend Doris. In his twenties, he had a wonderful existence ; marriage, 3 gorgeous children, a good career, loads of friends, tennis in summer, and rugby in the winter. Life was pretty perfect.

Then, everything changed when his neck was crushed during a game of rugby. He was initially paralysed from the waist down, and at the age of 28, thought (and wished) that life was over.

Moving on 40 years or so, he will tell you that life is a continuing joy.....because we're all still here. For him (a man who is in pain most of the time) it's that simple : we're still alive. I've never known anyone who smiles and laughs as much as he does, and believe me, it's infectious.

He says that when he lost his mobility, it wasn't the end. It was a different beginning.

It's not the life he planned or wanted, but it's the life he got. And for someone who can barely walk....he's run with it.

We never know what lies ahead, be it good or bad. But whatever we have to face, let's face it like Doris.....with a smile, a poke of the stick, and at least one dubious joke a day!
