Norfolk Pine
Yesterday’s photo of the lake looked just like Constable’s England, so here’s a very different image. It’s my favourite tree in the peeing park across the road.
Silverback notes:
The Norfolk Pine evolved on a few small pacific Islands and was first spotted by Captain James Cook on Norfolk Island during his second trip to the Antipodes.
He thought they would make good ship masts. This led to them being cultivated up and down the east coast of Australia. Sadly they were not strong enough and hence were never used for that purpose.
The young tree is quite triangular with a wide base and is now cultivated world wide for use as Christmas trees!
When the tree gets old, the lower branches tend to become withered and short and the tree ends up looking like this one.
