Castlegate
Have decided to look at places of interest around Pickering.
This is the Friends’ Meeting House built in 1793. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the gardens. This overlooks the old Quaker burial ground, created because Quakers could not be buried in sacred ground. In the porch are some very substantial hat pegs for the over large hats that used to be worn by Quakers.
In the foreground the current caretakers have created a grass labyrinth for visitors to enjoy.
We pass this on a daily basis as we head out on our dog walks.
