Corked?!!

We had guests round for dinner this evening. They are good friends but they are seriously keen on good wines and know their stuff. The pressure was on to serve something good. In preparation I'd bought a not inexpensive bottle of chateau-neuf-du -pape from Waitrose to go with the venison casserole I had planned to cook. Tonight, prior to their arrival, EP opened the bottle and we had the required taste. Expensive disaster! It was clearly off & tasted like red wine vinegar!! However, we dusted off one of a number of lovely reds which we brought back from France in the summer (for just a few euros each) & thankfully, it passed the taste test!!
