Cuil Bay
Tanya and I are staying at South Cuil, near Duror, in Argyll. Our childhood bathing spot, when we lived in Duror in the 1970s, was Cuil Bay, seen here. We could walk to the bay from our house near the village, and back the long way round via the shop for a packet of KP Salt and Vinegar Discos, and down the drive to Tyson's farm, which adjoined our garden.
Coming back now, aged 55 as opposed to, say, 11, I am impressed at the distances we walked or cycled on a daily basis. In the car, I recognise landmarks, but not the lonely stretches of road between them.
Another going-to-Oban day, and visiting the house. Today we managed to take photos; have lunch overlooking Castle Stalker at Appin; pick up some glass; deposit some money, old newspapers, and ornaments; buy a workshirt, a tartan rug and some tablet. All this, and we still had time for coffee in Wetherspoon's, overlooking the harbour!
Back to Mouse's for supper, then Tanya raced off to Connel station to pick up her younger daughter and boyfriend, who are staying at Mouse's. We had to leave them there eating macaroni cheese, while we hastened around Loch Creran to catch the 10pm convoy going through the roadworks at Appin (see yesterday's blip for further explanations).
I think I may have made it to bed before midnight tonight. Astonishing, on a family holiday.
