Wedding Week - The Grasmere Show

We'd not realised but our stay in the village coincided with the Grasmere Sports Show on our final day.  Combine that with superb summer weather and we all agreed that we ought to stay around to enjoy the festivities.

There were various events going on including the Cumbrian and Westmoreland Wrestling, hound racing and fell running.  I certainly wouldn't have fancied the latter; the course headed straight up the fell side towards Stone Arthur and was extremely steep.  To see the under 10 race was special as they all ran away to tackle the slope.  While a lad won, the second placed runner was a girl and in a new record time for the event.

We made late entries for the two dogs in our party into the dog show, but sadly, while they acquitted themselves in the ring, they did not come back with rosettes.  We also had to smile at the human fruit machine and their performance as each contestant tried their luck.  We'd never seen anything like that before.

And then finally it was time to head home after the most amazing family week, complete with wedding and celebrations.
