If any wildflower could lay claim to royalty, surely Bee Balm should have that right. Not only for the resemblance of its petals to a crown, but also the purple colour.

I was having a frustrating time shooting so close with a macro because only tiny movements induced by the wind resulted in motion blur. Add to that the low light and consequent low shutter speed, I was glad to find this specimen leaning over and growing close to the ground.

Up close, I found the central green dome shaped part of the flower quite interesting, with a series of round holes surrounded by hairs.
