Rescued by Eagles

Eaglewatch again and thick fog from Kirkwall to Stromness and on the ferry. But beautiful on Hoy. It was me and the warden Lee, today. She was expecting an interesting visitor, but thought the fog may have put off his party. But he turned up- Sir Ian Mackellen! He is in Orkney to do a show as part of his 80th birthday national tour and he was very pleasant and interested, as were his friends, in the eagles. We had the scope on the chick but she was quite far off. Then, a mere couple of minutes after the actor arrived- the female eagle suddenly appeared above us and everyone had fantastic views as she circled leisurely over us. Later, other visitors watched as the female brought in a meal of fulmar to the chick. I did take a couple of photos of Ian McKellen but they're for the RSPB to use on their material.
