Beamish Museum
In trying to think of something that we would all enjoy today, we landed on Beamish, the open air museum in County Durham. If you have never been, it has a variety of reconstructed landscapes - a mining village, a 1940s farm, a 1900s town, an 1820s tenant farmer's house, etc. etc. It was interesting and fun, and certainly kept us on our feet for most of the day, though it was getting hot (especially after getting used to the weather further north!). I like historical re-enactments, and I thought the bakery in the town (making and selling actual cakes and biscuits from the early 1900s) was charming.
