Mountain hare - Lepus timidus

Apart from their natural predators such as golden eagles and the like, constant culling by grouse moor managers is being blamed for the drastic decline of one of our most beloved Scottish animals. Unless the government bodies address this situation by appropriate legislation as a matter of great urgency, one can see us losing this iconic species.Earlier this year I walked up a Perthshire mountain renowned for it's population of mountain hares to photograph them in their beautiful white winter coats and was surprised to see not one solitary hare. A chap at the car park later told me that the estate had completely eradicated them - last year there was a healthy population of them there. Get it sorted !
Rant over have a nice day
