Strangest things - Water of Leith

Wandering up the Water of Leith this morning, in search of something to photograph, I nearly stepped on these feet. I think they bear a remarkable resemblance to this blip, don't you? Could easily be the same pair of shoes/boots.

I was careful about taking the photograph, and then tried - subtly (I don't really do subtle) - to see who the feet belonged to. I thought it might be someone who was asleep. But in fact, they seemed to belong to a man who was just sitting watching the river. Heaven knows what the backstory might be.
