Entry 816 - Optigut

Today, my housemate and I start the optigut study. We are taking part in research into gastrointestinal health carried out by Kings College & Queen Mary University of London. This involves this week keeping a food diary, keeping a sample of ALL of the stools that I pass, going into King's College to provide a fresh sample, taking colon transit tablets and going to the New Royal London Hospital for an xray of my gut. We do this this week and in week 6 of the study and keep a diary of food for a different week too. When we have completed the study, we get paid £100. It seems a lot of work for £100 but £100 is £100 when you are a student! Plus, I like the idea of making my own university pay me £100 for my own s**t ;-)

In the picture are all of the things I need to collect the sample. Because I am at uni all day writing an essay, I have had to bring all this with me....all in the name of science.
