Finding Beauty...in the gutter

I made it a point when I was out today, to be extra nice to everyone I came in contact with. Giving the right of way to shopping carts and cars in the parking lot. One mom and her daughter were singing a Christmas carol at the grocery store. As I passed by, they were just finishing, I told the mom, "I love that you are keeping the Christmas spirit alive" and gave her a big smile. She thanked me and beamed, as I walked away, the mom told the little girl what I had said. It seemed to make an impression on her. I told all the cashiers "Happy New Year". They responded with a cheerful, Happy New Year to you too but seemed to be taken aback.
