The end of an era.

The army of Jacobites on its way to Derby marched past the house called Broughton Green in 1745.

For 200 years it was the home of the Masterton family. John Buchan’s father married Helen Masterton, so John Buchan and his siblings used to come here for their holidays to their maternal grandparents. The countryside around looms large as an influence on the man and his work.

Today, Deborah is leaving Broughton Green. As Buchan’s granddaughter, she is the last family link to this fine old house.
