I've spent the money I was given for Christmas on a book and some DVDs.

Not my usual way of things as I am more likely to buy groceries with it.

I've made an effort not to fritter the money on household expenses this time to see if it sits comfortably with me.

Now that it's gone, I best make the most if the purchases.
