Outer Hebrides
Five islands today...….
An early start today saw us heading from Benbecula and North Uist, to Berneray to catch the early ferry to Leverburgh on South Harris. As before, a beautiful sail in wonderful conditions, with lots of seals and seabirds to be seen, unfortunately we didn't see dolphins or porpoises which I was looking out for. On arrival at Leverburgh we headed to Tarbert and had some time there to check out the gin distillery and the tweed shop, and have a cuppa too.
From there we headed north to Stornoway. Now I am not too keen on Stornoway, having spent a wet Sunday there a few years ago and discovered the place was totally shut on Sundays. However, today we went to the Castle Museum, where they had an exhibition of a few of the Lewis Chessmen, lent to the museum from the British Museum (?) where the majority are kept. There are a few in Edinburgh, but the majority are south of the border. I had never seen them and was amazed at their condition, they look almost new.
Today was a long day but a good day also. We had the only rain on the way back to the hotel, just as we were leaving Stornoway the heavens opened and we had heavy rain …… we were very lucky it had stayed off during the day.
Have added some extra photos too
