President Woodrow Wilson........

Today I drove from Boone, N Carolina to Staunton, Virgina.  Along  Route I81, there was a sign that advertised the Presidential Library and place of birth for Pres Wilson.  Thats all I needed.....  a chance to see another Presidential Library. 
   Today's blip is the front of the home of his birth place.  The bed he was born in was in the children's room, next to the servants scully and the kitchen.  The home was incredibly authentic, furnished as it was in the late 1800's.  Everything was from that time period....    the desk, the guitar of his mother, the desk with hand written notes of Woodrow Wilson, photos of the Pres with other individuals, original photos of other presidents.   It was a wildly fascinating  house to walk through.  In the extra is one of the first stoves that was put in a house with a firebox on the bottom.  Usually, during that time, stoves weren't in the houses because the popped sparks from the burning wood or coal, and burned the house down.
      There was original china used by the family, toys that Woodrow played with, original furniture that was either donated or preserved in house after his death.  The house is a wonderful example of the architecture of the era. It was also fascinating to learn that he negotiated the peace which ended WW 1, was against women getting the vote,  and vetoed all bills that  would make segregation illegal.   Fascinating!!!   Who knew?
     Surrounding the home was a lovely set of gardens going up the hill the home was built on.  The carriage house held the method of transportations and horse stalls.  In the museum, the presidential car Press Wilson used when he was in office.  It cost $3,000 dollars, brand new.  It is also in the extras.  The last extra is of a door knob, hand created in the blacksmith's forge.
     I have now visited George H W Bush, Lyndon Baines Johnson, George Bush, Dwight D Eisenhower, and Woodrow Wilson's Presidential Library.  Everyone of them has been tremendously fascinating, educational, and interesting!  I hope to see every presidential library I can.
