Brolly?

One thing that is pointless in Orkney is an umbrella. The wind blows from all directions at once, flipping the brolly inside out whichever way you turn. Plus the rain falls sideways and upwards, anyway but down.

My Japanese guest discovered this today. Add in trying to operate a camera to the equation and there was no way he was going to stay dry. Still, he persevered and kept smiling and laughing throughout our visit to the two stone circles. Afterwards we insisted that we take him to a cafe for a hot drink to warm up. He was very glad to be inside. Thankfully the weather cleared later and we managed most of the rest of the day without getting soaked again.
