I managed to get out onto the moor for a couple of hours this morning. The sun remained veiled, but every so often a little more light would seep through to burnish the winter grasses.

This position nicely illustrates how Baildon Moor is a small spur at the eastern extremity of the South Pennines. Although it's not particularly high, the ground plunges away into Airedale below, and to the east and south the landscape opens up. On a good day you can see to Derbyshire.

This is one of my favourite spots as the outlook ties together the gritstone moorland, the upland pasture, the city in the valley, and then the continuation of pasture and moorland beyond. It is distinctively Pennine.
