Broughton
On route to Broughton to meet up with my college friend.. We've not met for over 2 years and planned this get together for 6 months.. 15 minutes away and she phoned us.. a lorry had jackknifed and the road was completely blocked.and there was no possible detour.. .so they had no alternative but to turn back to Whitehaven. The problems of living on the outskirts of the Lake District!
We were able to get to Broughton, which was busier than usual as people arrived because they couldn't drive farther north.
We had a lovely lunch in The Black Cock served by a very efficient friendly barmaid and then went for a stroll in the sunshine, a welcome respite from the days of rain.
The market square was packed with parked cars so I had to squeeze in this photo which is not a war memorial as I first thought but erected to commemorate the jubilee of King George 111 in 1810. I'm not sure when the stocks below were built.
Back home and having discovered my friend is on Whats App so we had a video chat., not quite as good as meeting up , but we will try again.. .. probably not Furness
