Looking down
On my way round the cemetery again I spotted this bright tree stump set in the grass beside the path. It is all that remains of one the flowering cherry trees which line one of the main paths through the cemetery. I had noticed that it had been felled and then saw that several of the other cherry trees had serious problems with their bark.
I love the colour of the wood which was very vivid and probably indicates it was only felled recently. My parents used to have some furniture made of cherry wood and this reminded me of it. The setting in the grass with twigs and leaves which have fallen in the recent stormy weather seems rather evocative.
