Much Ado About Nothing

My Dear Fellows & Dear Princess Normal,

Ahhh Friday. 

I find myself a little bit stuck in the 90's lately. Especially tellywise. I miss the plethora of sitcoms I used to love in the 90's. 

I mean, don't get me wrong. I'm loving Wellington Paranormal, Life in Pieces, Santa Clarita Diet and What We Do In The Shadows, but in the 90's we had so many MORE, it felt like.

I've just compiled a list in my head: South Park, Father Ted, Friends, Frasier, Absolutely Fabulous, Will & Grace, Spin City, Black Books, The Simpsons, Roseanne, Malcolm in the Middle, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Married With Children, Scrubs, Red Dwarf, Seinfeld and 3rd Rock. I liked all of them.

I'm not sure how all of them have aged. Caro says she cannot watch Friends again. For her, it was too much of a time and place thing. I expect Married With Children would also be a bit cringey these days. And don't get me started on effing Roseanne. Sadly, she turned into a right-wing nut-job, which sours the whole thing. Then again, so did Kelsey Grammar.

Regardless of his political leanings, Frasier will never age for me. It is still our favourite. Our only problem is that we have seen the episodes too often. Caro, for example, has to have this episode* on every Xmas, or it is not really Xmas. I'm the same with Father Ted. Sadly, it has got to the stage where I can quote it. Especially this scene, which rendered me unable to breathe the first time I saw it.

So recently, we have been going through shows we don't remember so well. 3rd Rock is still a delight and there are some episodes I don't remember at all. I especially love how Sally and Officer Don act like they are not in a sitcom at all. It's like they are in a 1980's soap opera every time they are together.

Officer Don also appeared as an Evil Postman in Seinfeld, a show I just didn't get when it started. In fact, I still think the first couple of seasons are a bit crap. Fortunately, it just got better and better as it went on. I especially like the episode that runs backwards and yet still manages to be funny. So Caro and me have decided to revisit George, Jerry and Elaine as well.

Seinfeld was famously the show about nothing. And as you can see, I have nothing for you today as well. It was a nothing Friday, and much the better for it.

* To this day, if I want to get a random laugh out of Caro, I just use the phrase "Fridge Pants" to justify something.
