Bachelor Boy

My Dear Fellows and Dear Princess,

Caro has started watching "The Bachelor Australia". It is part of a whole reality telly binge going on at the moment that also includes "Love Island USA" and "Survivor Australia".

"It helps me relax," she says.

I get it. I have my own tv shows that require almost no thought. The mental bubblegum shows. So it is hard for me to mock.

Hard. Not impossible.

So. Listen to this. On "The Bachelor Australia", the bachelor himself is an astro-physicist on the lookout for a wife. He got introduced to 25 women, each of whom had to convey their personality to him quickly. Some did this by playing instruments, or dancing, or in the case of the woman who was a doctor, giving him an examination.

Subtle.

One woman asked what he did. "I'm an astro-physicist," he told her.

Pause.

"I'm a Gemini!" the woman replied.

Caro had to rewind this part of the show so I could see it. And then I understood why she loves these shows. And I watched to the end with her. And we laughed at the daffy antics all the way through.

We all need our bubblegum.

S.
