Chinese Qixi Festival

Well, now it's also widely interpreted as Chinese Valentine's Day - the 7th day of the 7th month in the lunar calendar.

Showing domestic skills such as weave and needlework has been a traditional element for females to pray for wisdom to the Weaver Girl in the festival. Nowadays it has attach importance to women's role and contribution to family and society. Young people tend to re-brand it as Chinese Valentine's Day for romance.

In our celebration at Queen's, I invited Weixia who's expert in paper folding and cutting, another skill set that most of the girls like. So her focus today was to make simple shapes such as heart. It was primarily for the postgraduates who remain at Queen's to complete their dissertations. It was time to refresh their mind by doing something completely different to typing and reading.

It happened that a young couple with their baby came to attend it and the adorable baby immediately won the heart of one of the girl students who just had made it.
