The Empty Bed

Despite recently shouting myself hoarse at my number one son, the sight of his empty bed feels as though someone is gently squeezing my heart. I am missing him terribly. Cameron is spending a second night at Nana and Didi's, ie my parents' house. 'Didi' was so-named by Cameron when he was learning to talk. It came from the play-pitched sound my Dad used to make when his tickling fingers were closing in on my firstborn. 'Didi didi didi didi didi ...'. In the same way that toddlers refer to dogs as 'woof-woofs' and ducks as 'quack-quacks' my Dad's moniker became 'Didi' and it stuck. And my Dad loves it.
