Hornet sting

I finally got round to installing my compost bins and in the process disturbed a hornets’ nest and got stung. Just the once. But it hurt. I put a bag of ice under my shirt which helped.

This has led to hornet war plans and realisation there is a nest inside a wall of the house.

I made beer traps and four days later one had forty hornets in it.

Lots of reasons not to kill hornets but so close to the house the chance of riling them or having an encounter rises. Normally placid they can get v aggressive when threatened and have a pheromones combs system that than bring a swarm raining down.

Protected in Germany with Max fine of €50,000 (?) for killing them.
