Fan Tail

I glanced out the window and my eye was caught by something that almost looked like a butterfly on the cage that is protecting an oak tree that The Husband planted. Looking more closely I saw that it was a northern cardinal fanning its tail. It was opening and closing like a butterfly's wings! The cardinal is a member of this year's gang of new young cardinals, and I suspect it might have been saying to itself "Wow! Look at my fancy new tail feathers!" It's hard to tell for certain right this moment whether it is growing in big boy or big girl feathers... I'm suspecting girl, but time will tell.
