A tragic paradox is on display in Los Angeles. The economy is vibrant and legions of wealthy, young professionals spend small fortunes on food, cars, and entertainment.  Yet, tent cities line freeway underpasses, vacant lots, parks and alleys. LA's homeless population is 59,000. Homelessness is a complex phenomenon with many causes, but in California a major factor is the skyrocketing cost of housing.  Over the last 6-years, the medium income grew 23%, while the median rent increased 67%.
