Gatekeeper butterfly
Went strolling through meadows with other members of my camera club, looking for butterflies, spiders and dragonflies. We got caught in a downpour of rain mid-morning, just as we were getting down to snapping the wasp spiders, and it became increasingly windy. We bundled our cameras away and went off for an early lunch when, of course, the sun came out and everything began to dry off in the heat.
Not used to taking photographs of insects, but I managed to capture this gatekeeper butterfly as it rested in the sun. Only one of its antennae shows properly; the other appears to be tucked under its body.
