Chicory and Red Clover

This mixture is being grown as a Green Manure crop to improve the soil. It is integrated into our crop rotation so the nutrients  will already be in the soil when the next is sown.   The deep roots of the chicory bring up the nutrients from the sub-soil and together with the red clover, fix the nitrogen.   Hopefully the need for spreading manufactured nitrogen over this field will be far less.  It is a lovely sight from the house!
