Castle Drogo
My third day in a row of running, and it isn’t getting any easier. It was hard work. I stopped on the beach and watched the sea lapping against the shore. It was very calm. If I had sat down I probably wouldn’t have got up again for quite some time. TT made a picnic and we headed off to the edge of Dartmoor to Fingle Bridge and walked up by the River Teign, then climbing high up above the river, to reach our destination – Castle Drogo. We had our picnic in the orchard meadow, then meandered through the lovely gardens to the castle. It has been undergoing serious renovation over the past few years, and we were told the last of the scaffolding is to be coming down next week.
We explored the castle, but TT and I both agreed that we liked it better the last time we visited when the contents were largely packed away and replaced with art installations telling the untold stories of the castle. We were all weary after our walk and enjoyed our barbeque in the secret garden of the our cottage.
Here is a view of the castle where the scaffolding has already been removed. Castle Drogo is the youngest castle in the UK.
