The dropped stitch

Still waiting?

My first visit to the new hospital this morning. A trip to the Ophthalmology department.

The eye specialist was somewhat distracted by new building/system hiccups and appointments were running nearly an hour late.

Firstly, he couldn't access my notes as there were problems with the computer system.

He was also finding the loudly closing door to the consulting room particularly vexing. He was distracted by other staff members 'creeping in' whilst he was speaking to patients. This was made worse because of things not running quite as clockwork. There WAS a lot of nipping in and out of rooms: 'Where is this piece of equipment?', 'Do you know how this system works?', 'Can we please find some more chairs?'

It made sitting waiting in the corridor quite entertaining, but must have upped stress levels for those trying to do their job.

At one point, mid-explanation of the treatment needed for my eye, the specialist leapt out of his chair to demonstrate to the nurse who had just crept into the room to collect something from a shelf, how she should close the door QUIETLY!

On my way out of the hospital I couldn't help noticing these folk... still waiting. Left by a porter with a sense of humour?
