Blackness Castle
The exhibition at Blackness Castle of photographs by Ken Paterson entitled 'In the Footsteps of John Muir' closes on August 5th, so we went today. The photographs are from places, mainly in the USA, that were familiar to John Muir who was born in Dunbar but emigrated to the USA at the age of 11. His interest in the natural world led him to instigate the National Parks scheme.
We then took the tour round the castle itself, with fine views of the three Forth Bridges and, on the nearby rocks, a range of seabirds - including lapwing, redshank, ringed plover, tern and heron.
Extra photo is of a few of the butterflies enjoying the buddleia at the New Hopetoun Garden Centre, while we enjoyed coffee.
