Life through the lens...

York.

Unfortunately when we got to Naburn Lock we discovered that today's boat to York had been cancelled. ( Due to the height of the river, and impending storms)
So plan B.
We drove to the Park and Ride at Askham Bar, and caught the bus into York .A short walk round part of the city walls, and then a stop for tea/coffee.
It was very warm and sunny an so found a spot to sit outside with a view of the Minster.
Refreshed we carried on to find The Church of Holy Trinity.
A hidden treasure tucked behind Goodramgate.

Declared redundant in 1971 and now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.
Dates from the 12th Century.
Entirely lit by candles .
Such a beautiful old church.
Unfortunately ( or may be not) noted as the church where Ann Lister of Shibden Hall , Halifax  and Ann Walker took sacrament to seal their union.
While we were there two parties were being shown round, and all we could hear was talk about Gentleman Jack.
It was actually because of Gentleman Jack that I too found the church,  but I am certainly glad I did, and will be back again next time we are in York.
Looking round the churchyard there were several large Buddleia bushes, covered in different kinds of butterflies.
Many Peacocks, but also Painted Ladies  I think.  ( see extra)
By now we were ready for lunch, so off to our favourite Italian restaurant  Lucia Wine Bar and Grill.   We just managed to get a seat outside. The " boys" ordered beers, but Kath and I couldn't resist the sound of
" Paradise in Yorkshire"   Absolute mango vodka, Passoa passion fruit liqueur, pomegranate juice, apple juice and passion fruit puree.

It was soooooo good. Perfect for a hot sunny day.

The weather was perfect. Not what we expected.
However just as we got off the bus, and were walking back to the car, the rain came.   How lucky was that.
Rained most of the way home.

After a wonderful and very enjoyable day we finished off with tea and cake at our house.
The fact that we didn't sail on the boat was probably a good thing as I think the last hour in York waiting for it to take us back, would have been very wet.
