I have just returned from a community meeting in Sevenhill where we were given lots of info about yesterday's bushfire and a forecast for the next few days. Most of these country people have seen circumstances like this before but there was a definite sense of danger. The problem is that although the main part of yesterday's fire is under control many hot coals and smouldering logs will remain for days. The bad news is that for Friday the weather prediction is a maximum temperature of 41C, only 6% humidity and winds will switch to the north (that is blowing towards our home) gusting up to 55 kph. Friday is looking like it will be classed in the Catastrophic category, the maximum category, indicating that any bush fires are uncontrollable, homes cannot be protected and lookout for your life.
So we are going to spend two nights in Adelaide and come home Saturday morning. If we are not here we can't be harmed. That has always been our bushfire plan.
