On recommendation...
Someone knows this view very well....
Assynt is a marvel. Listening to Greek myths at the same time gave us the idea that a nymph might just pop up and dance across the lily pads as we wound our way through this special place. I scraped the hire van unfortunately, but minutes later saw a flubber of sunning seals and a leaping deer. It was meant to be.
Drumbeg was worth the detour and Scourie also, but as we were about to pitch our tent above the cliffs, we read the weather forecast and found Handa Island couldn’t me visited on a Sunday, so we took a last minute gamble and set off for Sandwood Bay. Another good decision. Just a few midges on the way, tent up in seconds on our own dune with no neighbours bar the gannets and gulls. Seaweed fire smoke kept more insects at bay and sausage casserole was reinvented. Pudding however.... giant Scottish raspberries squished on scones with creme fraiche. So worth lugging them miles and miles
