Eycott / Mosedale

I’m blaming the humidity but I only cycled 11 or 12 miles with 750 feet descent/ascent and I was completely exhausted.
I thought it would be a fairly gentle cycle with the intention of visiting the Quaker meeting house at Mosedale for tea and cake to fortify the climb back up to Eycott ...

I wanted to stop there because my husband used to talk about a summer he spent staying there doing the teas one year, long before we met.
I kind of wish I hadn’t, I just ended up crying. Fortunately I was beset by heyfever too. Always good cover. I thought I’d be fine. I should have heeded Edna ...

Edna Vincent St Millay ...

Time does not bring relief; you all have lied
Who told me time would ease me of my pain!
I miss him in the weeping of the rain;
I want him at the shrinking of the tide;
The old snows melt from every mountain-side,
And last year's leaves are smoke in every lane;
But last year's bitter loving must remain
Heaped on my heart, and my old thoughts abide.
There are a hundred places where I fear
To go,-so with his memory they brim.
And entering with relief some quiet place
Where never fell his foot or shone his face
I say, "There is no memory of him here!"
And so stand stricken, so remembering him.
