Rhino
Day 16: Namibia
Don’t know where to start.....we went back in to the park this morning, and having got our three day permit as we will stay in the park overnight for the next few days, we set off for the waterholes. We saw many springbok, blue wilderbeasts, gemsboks, gudus, ostriches, cape ground squirrels, giraffes, many zebras and a black faced impala. Then, 40 mètres from the side of the road, we spotted a rhino! We spent 20 mins watching him before he wandered away.
We headed for Halali camp, set up the tents before heading off to the viewing point of the watering hole at the edge of camp. Twelve African elephants were drinking when we arrived, including three very young looking babies. It was fun watching the adults drinking and the babies playing around. THEN a Black Rhino arrived, closely followed by another one from a different direction. We watched on in awe as they faced each other and started to fight. See extra. It only lasted a few seconds but you could feel the tension open the air. The elephants moved away and then one of the rhinos repeatedly chased the other one away. Finally, as the last light faded, the second rhino moved away and the waterhole returned to calm. We were all very excited by what we had seen over the course of the hour and it was the talking point for a long time.
