Very Excited

I went to do my butterfly survey this morning but couldn't get access to the site as the Forestry Commission were logging due to storm damage after last nights spectacular thunderstorms. When I got home I tried to get a blip of the 2 small whites I saw on our lavender.....imagine my surprise when I saw this huge Elephant Hawk-moth wedged between the lavender and the hedge.  Not sure what he was doing there as he's a nocturnal moth so shouldn't be out in daylight anyway. I wonder if it had something to do with last nights storms?
