Perfect Potato Blight weather
This hot, wet and humid weather is ideal for the development and spread of potato blight. At the Allotments we harvested another 2 rows of early potatoes (varieties: Swift and Ted Duke of York). For the 2nd Earlies we cut back all the shaws to prevent any damage from blight. Only the late variety Sarpo, which is resistant to blight, was not cut back.
Kale and leek plants will be transplanted into the area where the potatoes were harvested and any areas left will be sown with green manure.
