Haddon Hall
A fabulous trip to see this fine example of a medieval house. The top is Elizabethan built with higher ceilings and more light than the underneath which was earlier and where the great Hall would have had a fireplace in the centre of the room and just skins across the windows. It has survived almost unaltered because no family lived in it for nearly 200 years.. it lay dormant with staff keeping it safe all that time. The next Duke to inherit it was an antiquarian and historian and he decided to restore it as it had been without modernising it which is wonderful for us to see. The kitchen is amazing and has the original worksurfaces and layout ... astonishing to see.
The garden was beautiful too and the windows twinkled in the sunlight
A very hot day and a long and hot journey home directly into the sun which was very sleepy making.
Must get to bed early as l have another adventure tomorrow on the hottest day of the year (it is forecast )
