Everyday I Write The Book

Mean streets

Went to Guildford for a bit of shopping today and as we walked in from the open air car park on the edge of town there was a bunch of 14-17 year olds hanging out on a street corner. They radiated unpleasantness  and as we crossed one of them hurled a half full can of drink through the air and across the road. Being concerned citizens in the matter of littering and loutishness we politely suggested they pick it up and put it in the bin. We even tried being nice to them but all we got was lippy and another projectile. They wandered off and we found a bin for their stuff; a little cluster of people were looking at us as if we were mad.

An hour later they were outside the shopping centre, abusing passers by and throwing advertising hoardings under passing buses. So this time we photographed them and got yelled at but we called the police and they bolted into the shops.

The police said they got a lot of this on a Sunday in Guildford and would "alert passing patrols’. As we drove home three or four other young guys were having a burn up in their noisy little motors and cutting us up in the process and we decided that we were glad to be on our way.

I’m not a moaning old git but this pisses me off. Woking by contrast was relaxed and family friendly, and I spent some time in the garden and restored my spiritual equilibrium. We did have a blocked drain later which meant taking up manhole covers after dark, although that kind of shit annoys me less than the human kind.

I’ve fuzzed the photo to protect the innocent although most of the people in this shot were guilty of being idiots (and that’s putting it kindly).

Anyway there were many good things about today not least TSM’s home made ramen and conversation in the garden as the sun went down. Tomorrow will I am sure be even better.
