At Last!
I have been bemoaning the fact to fellow blippers that there has been a distinct lack of butterflies in our area but this afternoon I was excited to see this pair enjoying the verbena bonariensis.
At first I thought that they were a couple of outriders of the thousands, if not millions, of Painted Lady butterflies predicted to arrive on our shores from Europe later this week.
However, they are in fact Small Tortoiseshell Butterflies, easily recognised by their blue colouring on the edges of their wings.
At this point I'd like to acknowledge Google as my source and not give anyone reading this, the impression that I am a Smart Ass! :-D
