Crosne

Off to France to spend Christmas with the Count and Countess... on the way back from the airport, a stop at a local supermarché for provisions. I was pleased to see these succulent, nutty little delights again: they always appear in France around this time of the year... called Crosne in France, but does anyone know what they really are?
