Scarce Swallowtail

...... has to be the most unusual and beautiful butterfly on the buddleia (sorry I haven't been away from the house again!) The eye spot is to confuse the birds who might take it in flight. Probably a bird got a mouthful of this one's tail so it is looking rather battered. In the extra the upperwings are shown, rather zebra like I always think.

The house is getting a good spring clean and piles of weeds have been executed poor things, as I have not been able to walk far, but that might come to an end tomorrow....
