Playing In Denver
Play is the highest form of research
Albert Einstein
This rather wonderful quote is what is displayed on the banner outside of the Denver Art Museum. It’s related to one of the exhibits going on right now - ‘Serious Play: Design in Midcentury America’
I didn’t properly visit the art museum today, other than taking a look at the impressive gift shop. I had had an early morning walk (before it got HOT!) and had a leisurely breakfast at an old favourite, Dozens, close to the museum. There are lots of interesting things to see in this area - historic homes and art galleries in the Golden Triangle to the south, and the Civic Center to the north, which includes the State Capitol building, the City & County Building and the new courthouse.
I mostly just explored the museum plaza and visited the library as well. I did enjoy relaxing in these unusual rocking chairs outside the museum. They were popular with children and adults alike, and made music when they rocked.
This rather interesting angular building is the Hamilton building and is just one part of the whole art museum. It opened in 2006, and is connected to the original (1971) museum building.
After a long visit to the library, I was ready for a quick salad lunch and eagerly headed back to the condo as it was TOO HOT! It’s going to be hot all week - close to 100F/40C. Thankfully Denver is a dry heat and it does usually cool down in the evenings and at night.
There are numerous jazz bars in Denver which I will be enjoying during my visit here. This evening I went to Dazzle which occupies much of the historic Bauer building downtown. They were celebrating the 147th anniversary of the building and playing this evening was Impulse, a young and successful local band. I enjoyed a Happy Hour pizza and a couple of hours of good music!
