A bright new dawn?

One Street 9

The first morning of 2013 was bright and hopeful and encouraged me to get out for my first blip of the new year.

This is the entrance to our village from Bingley on Harden Road (becoming Long Lane). The building on the left is Cockroft Fold, a former farm, now cottages with stables, part of which is still owned by the Shaw family, the former farmers.

Just beyond the parked car you can see the Park gates. This is Ferrand's Park. A green space where the annual Gala is held in June and a children's play space.
The name is taken from the Ferrand family, former Lords of the Manor of Cottingley and Allerton cum Wilsden who bought the St Ives Estate and mansion (then known as Harden Hall and built in 1616 and used by General Fairfax in the Ciivil war) in 1635 and later bequeathed it to the town of Bingley for use by the community.

Just behind me here is the cricket ground and football pitch, which I had gone to take a look at as the cricket pitch is flooded (don't remember seeing it like this before) and providing a nice home for gulls who normally perch on the goal posts of the adjacent football field. Cricket pitch pond.

Needless to say it has rained since I took this but nothing as bad a last New Year's Day as see here

Let's hope this is an omen and we are in for a brighter year in 2013!

Off to a New Year's day birthday party now at friend Roger's. On this the first day of the year I know it is exactly 6 months to my birthday which is on the middle day of the year!
