Happy New Year!

There were a lot of tired people at breakfast this morning. It was another 7am departure so not enough sleep for most of us. To make it worse we had 100km ahead of us, and 10 of those were up the Hai Van Pass (photo if from about 3km up).

We had a 20km warm up along a fairly flat road before tackling the pass. It was a steep road but the views were a great distraction. Fortunately most traffic is now diverted through a tunnel so it's fairly quiet. Just tourist traffic and petrol tankers (I think we were unlucky that three came through at once). It was tough going but I enjoyed it.

We then had a wonderful descent and ride around a lagoon. More beautiful scenery and a lovely ride.

After lunch we did about another 50km along mainly flat quiet roads and through more tiny villages. So lots of kids to say hello to and try to avoid as they jump out in front of you.

It's our last cycling day tomorrow which is a bit sad, and it's just 25km around Hue.
