New houses on Barty Farm
The weather conspired to hinder the fence project. A misty drizzle and strong breeze made painting panels impossible. Instead, we decided which cottage to rent for our visit in the Lakes in September. We plumped for the Cottage at Hill Top http://www.hilltopvista.com near Newby Bridge in the Southern Lakes. It was the final home of Arthur Ransome, a childhood hero of mine as you know.
Booked tickets for Edinburgh Fringe events: Paul Merton’s Impro Chums and All the Kings Men. Rock Choir has a full season of performances at the Fringe and our area are singing on 6th August at 7.20. Who would have thought it; performing at the Edinburgh Fringe! Lots of practice to do before then.
A quick walk in the late afternoon via the allotment to collect more courgettes, some green beans and beetroot. Making some courgette pickle tonight.
Today’s blip exemplifies the inexorable march of new houses in the South East in general and Bearsted in particular and I know pretty much everywhere else. Another open space on the edge of the village pillaged for houses. I know we need more housing but there are still lots of brownfield sites around and few are affordable houses either.
