A Young Mallard
After all the excitement of photographing puffins, today seemed drab and rather boring.
With a house full of dogs again I didn't get out with the camera until after 6pm when I headed to a local park.
The watersports club was in full swing with the kids exuberant and noisy, so I walked around to the furthest side of the lake where I found a few mallard taking shelter. Thinking I was going to feed them, they came over close giving me an opportunity to get a portrait of one of them.
I love the way the water droplets balance on his head and his plumage is actually quite beautiful, if you like brown!
